The subject of an invited international competition, the brief of which included a varied programme of 100 residential apartment units, 300 five start hotel bedrooms and facilities, 24,000m2 of office space, and a two level shopping mall.

Our solution proposed a thin 28 storey tower of four shafts with a sculptured profile at high level to add drama and individuality to the development. This tower would house the residential apartments at the top with the hotel below.

Alongside, and sharing the entrance forecourt facilities, is a shorter 12 storey block with the shopping mall at the lower level and offices above, located behind a sophisticated and elegant sunshield elevation.

Uniting these two elements, and creating a unique facility, would be a screen enclosure to the combined forecourt. This would protect the area from sunlight and provide an environmentally tempered ‘outdoor room’ suitable for various public and semi-public functions.

Although we did not win this competition – the concept of the ‘outdoor room’ was finally delivered in Singapore in one of our developments and has proved to be a hugely successful element of the scheme.
